Leaving (Getting out of Dodge)

Finally, the day is here! We are ready to leave town, and head to Susanville, California. In case you don't know where Susanville is, it is somewhere south of Weed. This is a worthy place for Oregonians to visit, because at 15%, their unemployment is actually higher than ours!

The weather in Susanville, altitude 4230, is predicted to be rainy with thunderstorms. Perfect first day.

Right now, I am just glad to be gone.

In the past week we have had: Sherry's continuing racing heart issues and anxiety; one dead cell phone; Eighth Grade graduation and all the setup for it; Piano Recital; trip to Eagle Crest for a 70th birthday party; Jeremy's 12th birthday; 22 hours of negotiation-related work for school-year cuts; giving and grading finals; packing up a room; working with a student teacher on next year; packing clothes; getting reading material for all travelers at the library; cholesterol screening; friday morning 6:30 breakfast meeting; Wednesday staff picnic; mowing the lawn one last time; standing over mole hills with an ax daring that little sucker to move; fixing camp trailer wiring and lights; writing out instructions for the army of people that will be taking care of things; checking weather forecasts INCESSANTLY; oh, and sleeping occasionally.

We are ready to get out of Dodge. It has been like OK Corral with no gate.
